Running an student organization like a small business

Context:
TechX is an MIT student organization that connect students with the tech industry through organizing hackathons, career fairs, professional talks. We also grant an scholarship fund for student to create a plethra of tech related project on campus!

My Contribution:
I was the president of the TechX from 2016-2017. I was responsible for the day to day operation of the organization as a whole, creating new initiatves, managing different projects. I was responsible for revamping our scholarship fund, balancing our budget sheets of over six-hundred thousand dollars. A cool part about our student organization is that all our software from running the events, informational websites, and content management, were created by ourselves, giving students a chance to create their own software!

My Thoughts:
One of the best experiencs I had in college. Running a large budget operation required both soft skills and hard skills. I learned the hardskills in class MIT, and TechX allowed me to practice those by building websites, managing technical software, designing hackathons. The soft skills such as managing different teams, balancing trade offs, was learned on the fly...trial and error... in order to pushing intitative through, and get things accomplish. It was a worthwhile endevour nevertheless!
