Week 8: Mid Review
The theme of my idea and design focuses around the idea of an inverted sun dial that is meant to be a functional decorative piece for your desk or your home. It functions as a clock but aesthically serves as a light and an artistic piece. So far I've gotten to play a bit with the form and mechanics of the design, however, a piece of feedback I've gotten is to abstract the design more. One goal is to make it abstract enough that it is instriguing at first glance. Instrinsic to the design is the way time is displayed and signaled. Part of that require a design of a how time is represented in relation with light and shadow. Time is traditionally represented as number and as positions on a dial. However, I wanted to abstract it further and have the pieces move together to create the correct display. I came up with two design this week. One focuses on the addictive and subtractive nature of shadows. The other focuses creating meaningful patterns in talling time like a time gauge.
