Sketch Model
The Shadow Wheel's purpose is to revive the idea of a sun dial. Sun dial has become obsolete and not of practical use anymore. It serves a aesthic purpose more than a functional purpose. The Sun Dial uses light and shadows to tell time, and so does this concept of a digital clock. It uses the concept of shadow created from light to represent the numbers in digital form. I created a circular number wheel similar to that of a clock where the shadow it casts is the time it is.
Rhino Model
The second model focuses on a moving light and having the numbers being a fixed piece. The light would move to cast the shadow of the number that represents the correct time. The model does not consist in a full 360 view of the numbers but demonstrates the concept that you can use light to highlight the numbers.
Physical Model
With the last model, I was playing with the projection of the shadows. Ultimately, I would want this to be hanging like a clock or a projection of the time somewhere. The traditional idea of sun dial relies on shadow being cast on the ground. However, I want this to be able to cast shadows on the wall or beyond the physical form that is limited by a sun dial.
