week 12: Final Review, Shadow Dial
The Shadow Dial is a timeless decroative clock that is inspired by the effects of a sun-dial. Sun Dials over time been phased out by modernization. It has become an antique. For my design of the Shadow Dial, I wanted to re-imagine the Sun Dial for indoor. The design is inspired by the idea of an inverted sun dial, where the sun or light fixture is fixed and it is the dials that are moving. The idea naturally focuses on the key effect of traditional sundials which is it's use of the shadows. With my deisgn, the shadows are attentuates to create a beautiful moire effect on the foreground that adds to the enviorment. It combines the functional ability and aesthic ability of light and shadows in a single piece. Re-imagining the sun dial for the modern age...
Moire Effect The light or "fix" sun, casts a meserizing shadow effect created from the layering of the three dial wheels that represent, hour, minure, second. As any of the dials movie, the moire effect is created. One can observe the moire effect if looked directly onto the dial itself as well.
Colors Control. The piece uses a bluetooth controable light that allows you to change the color of the light as well as add a strobing and color changing effect it. You can pick any color "sun" that you want
Time. The slots on the side of the dial are meant to represent the hands of a clock. From looking directly on the gap of the shadow or the gap of the dials, one can tell what time it is like a regular clock!
